Kumasi Asante Kotoko was paired with Kumasi based Asokwa Depotivo for the round of 64 in the MTN Fa cup. The match was held at the Lenclay sports stadium since the Baba Yara Sports Stadium had been closed for renovation works.
Most pundits tipped Asante Kotoko to win since they were playing against a lower and inexperienced division one side.
The porcupines had a good start to the game as striker Richard Arthur opened the scoreline in the first half on the 35th minute.
Their lead was short lived as the underdogs equalized before the end of the first half. Depotivo took control of the game after the equalizer and created series of chances. Asokwa Depotivo then moved to take the lead against the premier league side few minutes into the second half through a solo effort from Emmanuel Osei
The Kum Apem boys piled pressure on Depotivo but couldn’t find the net. Asokwa Depotivo stood their grounds until the blast of the final whistle.
This means that Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been eliminated from the competition whiles Asokwa Depotivo advances to the round of 32.
The ‘obiaa nyɛ obiaaa’ spirit is back.
