Black Meteors fail to qualify for Olympics.

The Black Meteors today failed to t=beat their South African counterparts in the under 23 African Cup. The Meteors had earlier failed to beat the Ivorian under 23 team in the semi-finals. That meant that the Meteors had to win their match against South Africans in the 3rd / 4th game.

The Meteors were down by a goal to nil in the 15th minute after defender, Habib Mohammed scored an own goal. The Meteors team was unable to get the equalizer in the first half.

Five minutes into the second half, Evans Mensah got the needed equalizer. The Ghanaians players lifted their game and piled pressure on their opponents after the equalizer.

On the 62nd minute, South African midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi restored their lead with his first touch as a substitute from the bench. The meteors tried continued to mount pressure on the opponents until striker Samuel Gyabaa equalized on the 85th minute. The game ended in a 2 – 2 draw and the game went to the penalty kicks.

Malepo missed the first penalty kick for the South Africans but Margeman, Mukumela, and Luther scored whiles Lomotey, Evans and Abass went on to score for Ghana.

Kingsley and Cudjoe missed their penalties and this, therefore, means that the Ghanaian team has failed to book automatic qualification to the Olympic games.

The African representatives at next year’s Olympics will be Egypt, Ivory Coast, and South Africa.
