The Bank of Ghana has made a decision to approve 24-carat gold coins to commemorate Asantehene’s 20 years reign.
The coins are expected to be outdoored on his 70th birthday on 6th May 2020. The 37mm diameter gold coin will weigh a little over 30g.
The commemorative coin will be exclusively auctioned to the public and proceeds used to fund the establishment of the Cultural Resource Centre.
The resource center will also promote traditional and customary conflict resolution in the country.
Otumfour Osei Tutu II is the 17th leader of the Ashanti Kingdom. He was enstooled King on 26th April 1999 following the death of his predecessor Nana Opoku Ware and marked his 20th-anniversary last year.
He has been attributed to several developmental projects in the Ashanti Region and his rulership in the Kingdom is revered among the Ashanti and the world at large.
It deems it fit for the Bank of Ghana to honour him with this commemorative coin which will also generate money for the development of a Cultural Resource Centre.
