With the outbreak of the Corona Virus in China and other parts of the world, the Chinese government has put Wuhan province under lockdown. This is because the Wuhan province has been found to be where the Corona Virus started.

The Chinese government has therefore quarantined the whole province in order to control the spread of the virus to other parts of the country.

Ghanaian students whose movements have been halted by the lockdown expressed worry of the government’s attitude towards their welfare. They are therefore seeking immediate evacuation from China to Ghana.

Mr. Philip Arthur, one of the representatives of the National Union of Ghanaian students in China speaking on the behalf of the entire student body in Wuhan, stated that they have been indoors for over 21 days. He added that their continuous stay in Wuhan poses a serious health threat to them.

He said that comments from some leaders of the country are very worrying. He cited the Minister of Health comments as an example. The minister earlier said that the government will only bring back Ghanaians in China if the need arises.

He said that they do not need any monetary support from the government because their lives are at stake.

He said that the government should take a cue from other countries who are evacuating their nationals from China and do the same.

He ended by saying that the government should show care and concern for them because their lives also matter and pleaded with the government to evacuate them as soon as possible.
